When I arrive home from work, the first thing my 5-year-old son does to me is whisper in my ear, “Can I use your iPad now?” I dutifully comply, and soon enough he is begging me to download another demo app or to buy him Super Monkey Ball because there is a character from Sonic the Hedgehog he knows about in the game.
I try to steer him towards Dr. Seuss interactive readers and Curious George alphabet games, but he seems to prefer playing Rat on a Skateboard or bursting bubbles in some derivative bubble popping mini.
Besides his generally frivolous interaction with the iPad, he has experienced a few breakthrough moments on the iPad. He has discovered, for example, certain features on the built-in keypad that I never knew about and he stumbled onto creating folders in which you can group your apps.

But the most interesting breakthrough has been a blast from the past. While using the Crayola Color Studio app, he insisted on getting the iMarker. He wanted to use a pen. Imagine that.
